Save John Galt services

Residents of John Galt House are deeply concerned about the proposed changes to sheltered housing services by River Clyde Homes, which could see the removal or reduction of on-site wardens. For many elderly tenants, the warden service is not simply a convenience — it is a vital source of daily support, reassurance, and safety.

Wardens provide regular wellbeing checks, immediate assistance in emergencies, and a trusted, familiar presence within the building. Their role helps residents maintain independence while offering peace of mind to both tenants and their families. The proposal to replace this service with a more remote or “floating” model risks leaving vulnerable individuals feeling isolated, anxious, and less secure in their own homes.

Many residents rely on the daily human contact wardens provide to combat loneliness by providing numerous weekly activities such as bingo, card making and parties for special occasions such as Christmas or Valentine's Day and to identify issues before they become serious. Alarm systems alone cannot replace the value of face-to-face interaction, nor can they offer the same level of preventative care and personal support.

We urge River Clyde Homes to reconsider these proposed changes and to protect the essential warden service at John Galt House. Any decision affecting the wellbeing of elderly residents must prioritise their safety, dignity, and quality of life.

This petition calls for the retention of on-site wardens and meaningful engagement with residents to ensure their voices are heard before any final decisions are made.
