Keep swimming at Cowm Reservoir, Whitworth

PLEASE HELP TO KEEP US SWIMMING IN COWM RESERVOIR:

United Utilities have banned swimming in all reservoirs and have informed us that Whitwoth water sports centre at Cowm Reservoir is not an exception. This is despite the reservoir having been used in a safe responsible manner by many athletes including local Triathlon and swimming clubs all summer. The 'Cowm Clash Triathlon' was held on the reservoir in June which was a huge success, not only for the athletes and their families, but also for the local people of Whitworth.

Cowm Res IS an exception because it is under constant supervision. Swimmers prearrange swims so that they can be supervised, and only swim in a small section of the Reservoir for safety. Safety boats are also sent out with the swimmers. The water sports centre has its own insurance, so United Utilities would not be affected if there was an accident.

Accidents usually happen when people/children jump into reservoirs 'for a laugh'. I am NOT suggesting we make all swimming acceptable at the res, but I am asking you to sign this petition so that responsible, professional athletes can continue their open water training, under supervision, and having prearranged this with the water sports centre. Some of the athletes are going to World Championships and NEED this training, it is essential for them to do well. If we cannot fight this, there will be a lot of very disappointed people.
