Allow St Johns Apostolic Faith Mission church (Dunoon Site) Based Recovery Program under Mr Mhlambiso for Youth and Adults Struggling With Substance Abuse
We, the undersigned residents of Cape Town, urge government to formally recognize and partner with the local church under Rev Mhlambiso as safe places of healing for children and teenagers under the grip of substance abuse.
Youth substance abuse is rising across our communities. Many families cannot access or afford rehab facilities. Waitlists are long, and kids fall through the cracks. Meanwhile, the church is already trusted, rooted in community, and willing to help but lack legal mandate and resources to house and support youth and adults in crisis.
We believe the Church can help carry this burden.Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress- James 1:27.
We call on government to:
1. Authorise St Johns Apostolic Faith Mission to operate short and long term residential care programs for youth under and above 18 battling substance abuse, under safe standards.
2. Provide funding and training so the church can offer professional counseling, medical referrals, pastoral care, and 24/7 supervision in a safe environment.
3. Fast-track partnerships between the church, social workers, and health professionals to create a faith-based recovery pathway for youth and families who choose it.
4.Recognise spiritual care as a valid part of holistic recovery, alongside medical and psychological treatment.
5. Protect the rights of parents and guardians to choose St John’s Apostolic Faith Mission church based program as an alternative
Our goal is not to replace government services, but to expand the net so no youth member is left without help. The church is already on the front line to let us equip them to save lives.
We request a written response within 60 days from the relevent departments
