Having moved to the area five years ago this intersection has continually worried us as an accident waiting to happen. We've personally seen two crashes and multiple more near misses. It's incredible to us that a place with over 100 children at any one time can be placed so close to an incredibly dangerous high speed area with zero protection.
A tragedy waiting to happen and those who don't act will be to blame when the inevitable happens.

Population has increased significantly right now across the Bellarine but our roads are not keeping up. So many dangerous intersections and they get reported constantly but nothing happens! Keep our children safe.Leanne Marks (St Leonards, 2025-06-01)

There are and have been many incident involving cars ploughing into child care centres built on corners of intersections. This particular intersection sees multiple incidents each year and it's only a matter of time before there is one involving a car crashing into this child care centre. Does someone have to die before something is done?Chris Middleton (Geelong, 2025-06-01)

I'm signing because the intersection is extremely dangerous and there has been multiple crashes right next to the daycare fence. There is currently nothing that will stop a car crashing through the daycare fenceDaniel Patterson (Leopold, 2025-06-01)

A close friend, almost a member of my family, works in childcare in that area, and I would hate to see anything happen to her or the young ones in her care. If the government can spend billions of dollars of Victorian taxpayers money on tunnels and bridges in the metropolitan area, they can spend a small amount on something as important as this outside of Melbourne. Our son attends this childcare. The vehicle highway speed is high at 80kmh past the side of the childcare building and surrounding outside play yard where kids or carers could easily be killed if a car or cars became out of control. Does it require a death or deaths to put safety measures in place?Brad meadows (Curlewis, 2025-06-01)

The area where the childcare is located is very vulnerable to potential accidents. Putting more protection in place such as bollards to protect our children is a must.Isla Foy (Leopold, 2025-06-01)

I have been concerned since the day this building was erected -that coming down the hill there could be a disaster!I now have a grandchild attending this facility which makes me even more concerned with the amount of traffic and erratic drivers thrown into the mix!
If the council has approved the business it should have foreseen the needs for safety barriers and implemented them . It is too late if there is a problem!
Proper prior planning is paramount! Whether it is council or Vic roads is up to them but it needs to be fixed immediately!
What about our local MP!!

I drive passed often and have always thought how catastrophic this could end up. There is multiple local bollard company’s that would make this much safer, silly idea for it not to be done, don’t leave it until it’s too lateCody van de Laar (Portarlington, 2025-06-03)

The area is very busy and has had several bad accidents recently. The traffic volume is very high and lots of young children being dropped off each day. The traffic along Portarlington Rd is very heavy and travel at high speed.EXTRA10 Cadwallander (Leopold, 2025-06-03)

My grandson attends that childcare centre and naturally I am concerned about, not just his safety, but also the safety of all who attend that facility. To anyone who is responsible for organising the placement of suitable barriers: 'Can you imagine how sick you would feel if a car were to run off the highway and into the play area of that facility it just doesn't bear thinking about, just for the sake of a few $'s. Get it done, please.Eric Leslie (Portstewart, 2025-06-03)

I was shocked when this was built that no one thought of protecting children from the highway. I never considered sending my two children here for safety concerns. Everytime I drive past I am shocked by the council permitting this with no protection.Sarah Penning Penning (Leopold, 2025-06-03)
