School term time authorised absence allowance

This is a petition to highlight to the UK Government the problem which exists for families across the country when children require an absence from school during term times. Unfortunately, the situation is far from ideal when parents are being told by school governers what is good for their own children.

My wife and I recently applied for a authorised absence for my eldest son to go on a family holiday in September because we simply could not afford the exaggerated prices during the summer holidays. My son recorded an attendance for last year of 93%, but was still denied an absence of 6 days by the school.

Why can't children have an allowance for holidays per year? After talking to other people, it was clear that many believe we should have some say instead of being threatened and in some cases, issued with fines.

Hopefully, by starting this petition it will raise this issue high enough to start a worthwhile discussion with the people that implement the rules.
