PETITION TO ADDRESS THE ILLEGAL EMPLOYMENT OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN ACADEMIC LECTURER POSITIONS

We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition to bring to your urgent attention the ongoing and unlawful employment of foreign nationals in lecturer positions at public and private higher education institutions across the Republic of South Africa.

Our Request:

We, the undersigned, therefore call upon the Department of Employment and Labour to: 1. Investigate higher education institutions that employ foreign nationals as lecturers, where such appointments are not justified under the critical skills list. 2. Enforce compliance with the Employment Services Act, Section 8(2), by taking appropriate legal and administrative action against institutions found in breach. 3. Ensure transparency and accountability in the appointment processes of academic staff in South African institutions. 4. Protect the employment rights of South African citizens and permanent residents by halting the unjustified employment of foreign nationals in non-scarce skill categories.
