Intellectual Property Law in Rwanda
In 2009, the government of Rwanda enacted copyright laws to protect intellectual property.
I would like to ask to every rwandan artist or music lover to collaborate on this matter to make things happen
A law on the protection of Intellectual Properties has been adopted, sanctionned, promulgated and has been ordered to be published in the official Gazette of The Republic of Rwanda by the Parliament on 26/10/2009 (REF: LAW n°31/2009).
For years, ORINFOR and other private radio stations have been playing music in direct disregard to copyright practices. As a matter of fact, since the copyright laws came into effect, a system to collect, manage and distribute royalties has yet to be implemented in Rwanda.
And there isn't any official association for authors interpreters composers.
So we would like to ask to create a program to inform all actors of this sector about this law.
So they can be conscious of their rights and obligations.
