Protect the pure breed Danish-Swedish farmdog from puppymills and inbreeding
Please SIGN the petition / Urgent call to breeders and dogowners of FCI356 Danish-Swedish farmdogs!
Due to the Länsstyrelsens (The County Administrative Board's) inspection case number 9239-2024,682-2025,1849-2025, 1854-2025 etc. concerning among others - Adorados kennel, Sporrbackas kennel, Fjellalundas kennel, Sweden.
The County Administrative Board's in Halland county (Länsstyrelsen i Hallands län), Sweden, has carried out inspections of a number of kennels where the breeders have different family ties. For theese inspection cases 2024/2025 there were about 250 DSF:s living under terrible conditions at theese puppy mills. At Adorado's kennel there were 108 dogs, the majority of which were of the Danish-Swedish farm dog breed, at Sporrbacka's kennel there were 76 dogs, the majority of which were of the Danish-Swedish farm dog breed, and at kennel Fjellalundas there were 56 dogs, the majority of which were of the Danish-Swedish farm dog breed.
Unfortunately, The County Administrative Board's animal welfare inspectors did not intervene with immediate measures and despite horrendous neglect and mismanagement of the dogs, they did not seize the dogs, but gave the kennel owners grace time to remedy the serious deficiencies that the animal welfare inspectors found. This has resulted in the dogs now being spread within Sweden and neighboring countries in Europe, but also exported abroad, including to the USA.
We, breeders of the Danish-Swedish farm dog breed, demand that our breed club, the Danish-Swedish Farm Dog Breed Club, RDSG, and the Special Club for Farm and Herding Dogs, SGVK, demand that the Swedish Kennel club (SKK) decides that these farm dogs with pedigrees be immediately banned from breeding.
In light of the fact that the Swedish Kennel Club, in a crackdown on a dachshund breeder, recently banned these dachshunds from the kennel in question, we, the breeders of Danish-Swedish Farm Dogs in Sweden under the Swedish Kennel Club, demand that SKK take responsibility for the breed and immediately ban all dogs from the Adorados, Sporrbackas and Fjellalundas kennels from breeding. The alternative is to demand that the Danish-Swedish Farm Dogs registered in these kennels be DNA-tested for COI, and that the parents listed in the pedigree are also DNA-tested to ensure correct lineage and degree of inbreeding in the pedigrees that SKK has registered for DSF:s from theese puppymills.
Background:
The County Administrative Board's inspection reports case number 9239-2024, 682-2025, 1849-2025 etc. concerning about 250 DSF from Adorados kennel, Sporrbackas kennel, Fjellalundas kennel. Theese reports stated that the dogs were living under terrible conditions in too cramped spaces and in large groups. Despite this, the Swedish Kennel Club has registered litters of puppies from Adorados kennels breeding until 2024, Sporrbackas kennels breeding until 2024 and Fjellalundas kennels breeding until 2021. The breeders for each kennel are no longer members of the Swedish Kennel Club and have over the years been visited by the County Administrative Board's animal welfare inspectors, and have also received several serious reports of mistreated dogs.
No measures have been taken apart from supervision and decisions on measures which were not accompanied by the breeders.
Obviously, large-scale production of puppies has occurred for a long time before these supervisions. The first report of mistreated DSF:s at Fjellalundas kennel were in 2008. The suffering caused on to these dogs is absolutely terrible and deeply regrettable. All due to the fact that direct, sharp measures have not been taken by the County Administrative Board.
Since the dogs of the Danish-Swedish Farm Dog breed have lived in groups, it cannot be guaranteed that the SKK-registered pedigrees issued up to and including 2024 are consistent with reality.
A large number of these Danish-Swedish Farm Dogs from the puppy mills (that has a pedigree from the Swedish Kennel Club) are now being distributed to less scropolous breeders of DSF in Sweden, Denmark and other countries. The Danish-Swedish Farm Dog is one of the breeds with the lowest inbreeding factor and highest diversity according to a research report by Danika Bannasch “The effect of inbreeding, body size and morphology on health in dog breeds” published on 2021-12-02.
The Danish-Swedish Farm Dog is a country breed, a Swedish National breed and a breed where breed responsibility is shared between Sweden and Denmark. A breed that, according to statistics from insurance companies, is one of the healthier purebred breeds there is. IF these neglected, mismanaged and certainly with a probable high degree of inbreeding though SKK-registered Danish-Swedish farm dogs from the Adorados, Sporrbacka and Fjellalundas kennels are spread via less careful breeders of the breed to the Swedish population, that would be a disaster. That they are spread abroad to populations, which are significantly smaller, is an even greater disaster - in the USA the population is approximately 200 Danish-Swedish farm dogs - all with healthy genetic distribution and with origins from Sweden and the Nordic countries. In all likelihood, the spread is also taking place to other countries in Europe. Bringing in dogs from these aforementioned kennels is an even greater disaster.
Theese DSF from the puppymills needs a loving home, and not being thrown into another kennel for breeding purposes. There are no guaranties how many litters a female has had, nor how young a female has been when she first has been mated since there is a high probability that the registered pedigree are not accurate since the puppymills dogs has been living in large groups. Every one of them should be DNA-tested for COI before even thinking about bringing them into breeding.
