Petition of Interest - Dental Labor Union At New York University

We are a group of members of the New York University College of Dentistry family – parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni – writing this urgent letter of concern to you, in consultation with expert clinicians, to request a time-critical modification to New York University’s method of compensation for Dental Students.

All of us signing this letter have already complied with the College’s prior requirements. Additionally, we fully understand and empathize with the difficult position the New York University administration finds itself in during this pandemic. Nevertheless, we as a collective, encourage collective bargaining for the difficult patient care situation currently at the College of Dentistry

The ability for graduate students as front line workers to continue their education as "DOH hospital employees" represents an unnecessary qualification to students. As newly defined "hospital employees", we would like to begin the formal process to engage in collective bargaining with the New York University College of dentistry. We would like compensation for our treatment of patients as NCAA student-athletes are compensated.

The College’s administration has not exercised sufficient circumspection in creating delineated medically rational “off-ramps” from immunization mandates for those who are already well immune to COVID-19. It is a serious problem that a medically unnecessary third booster shot could prove dangerous and irreparably harmful in such already well-immune individuals. The Dental Labor Union Currently retains intellectual property for a US provisional patent for multiple-well viral assays that will solve this immunization problem for both students and patients alike, as well as increase access to patient care

Therefore, with this letter, we are respectfully requesting that New York University administration formally allow for the free and fair election of a Dental Labor Union at the NYU College of Dentistry
