Mayfield Prep School, Walsall - Spring Term refund

On 9 June, the school wrote to parents to say they were in the process of refunding payments on parentpay. These included ballet lessons, swimming, music etc.

The school acknowledges parents are entitled to a refund for their advance payments as they cannot deliver these services.

On 20 March, children were sent home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The school was unable to deliver its full educational service for the remainder of the Spring Term. They should now refund parents in the same way.

Its local rival, Hydesville Tower School has been providing full live classes for children since the lockdown. Children wear their full school uniform at school, they log into Microsoft Teams where they have live and interactive classes from 9am to 3pm, with the usual stops for break time and lunch.

The school has had time to take stock of the Spring Term. A refund should now be processed for the Spring Term, just as it is doing so for Parentpay.

If you have 1 child paying term fees of £3,100, your pro rata refund is approx. £515.

If you have 2 children, your pro rata refund is approx. £1,000.

The School has only offered a 25% reduction when it relates to the Summer Term fees. This was on the basis it could take advantage of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for 3 months.

The Scheme has since been increased by the Chancellor from 3 months to 8 months, an increase of 267%!

The School has received significant additional funds by the Scheme and should now support parents by refunding them.

If you booked a flight and it could not be taken, you would be entitled to a refund.

If you bought a ticket to a sporting or theatre event, you would be entitled to a refund.

Parents entered into a contract with the school and agreed to pay fees for a service. The school was not able to fulfil part of the contract. It follows that fees are repayable for that period.
