Castleside Against the Watergate Build
The purpose of this petition is to gather local opinion of those opposed to the proposal at a time when it is impossible to hold a Public Consultaion due to the COVID19 restrictions.

A proposal to build an estate of 35 homes on land to the South of Watergate Road, Castleside has been submitted to Durham County Council. Visually this will have a significant negative impact on an area classed as AONB and will encroach in to existing countryside. It also borders a listed site of historical interest (The Flues of the old Lead Smelting Mill site).
The access to the estate is planned at a point close to the brow of a hill on the busy A68 and would not be seen until the last minute by traffic travelling from the North towards the village.
The results of the petition will be made available to Healeyfield Parish Council to assist them in forming their response to the application.
