We, the residents and businesses of Ward 27, hereby petition the Executive Mayor and the City Manager for the City of Ekurhuleni to upgrade and increase the capacity of the stormwater infrastructure in Northmead and Rynfield, and urgently clean and maintain stormwater drains throughout Ward 27.
Northmead and Rynfield have experienced significant development and an increase in the number of properties and hard surfaces since the original stormwater infrastructure was installed. The existing stormwater network may no longer have sufficient capacity to handle the increased volumes of water, particularly during heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding and damage to roads and properties.
We call for the City to conduct an engineering assessment of the stormwater capacity in Northmead and Rynfield and make provision in the municipal budget to upgrade, enlarge or replace infrastructure where necessary to accommodate current and future stormwater flows. We further call for urgent cleaning and maintenance of stormwater drains, including the replacement of damaged or missing drain covers, throughout Ward 27.
Our communities are growing, and our infrastructure must keep pace.
