Petition to Extend City of Ekurhuleni 2025-2029 Property Valuation Roll by 12 Months to Allow for Administrative Investigation, Public Inspection and Objection

Property_Valuation_Fin1.png

The City of Ekurhuleni 2025-2029 Property Valuation Roll published on the 27th of January 2025 does not reflect the true value of residents’ properties. There are various inaccuracies, errors, and inconsistencies in the valuations, which have resulted in some properties being either undervalued or outrageously overvalued.

We, the residents of City of Ekurhuleni hereby petition the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, and Executive Mayor, Ald Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, to apply to the MEC for Local Government in Gauteng for permission to extend the 2025-2029 Property Valuation Roll as published on 27 January 2025 by 12 (twelve months) as allowed for under exceptional circumstances in terms of Section 32 (2) (b) Municipal Property Rates Act (MPRA).

This will allow the City Manager to investigate the erroneous, errata valuations published in the valuation roll and for the Council to review the qualifications and capability of the Municipal Valuer appointed by the City Manager. This extension will also allow homeowners to receive the Section 49 notification letters from the City as required in terms of the MPRA.
