Incorporate eSwatini to South Africa
Conduct a referendum on eSwatini's incorporation into South Africa
The Issue
Growing up at the border of eSwatini and South Africa, I have witnessed firsthand the socio-economic disparities that hinder the progress of our people. My family and many others straddle these borders, experiencing life on both sides. However, it is difficult to ignore the stark differences in access to opportunities, healthcare, education, and infrastructure between the two nations. This has driven me to advocate for a referendum on the possible incorporation of eSwatini into South Africa.
The Kingdom of eSwatini, despite its rich culture and history, is struggling with challenges including high unemployment rates, limited healthcare resources, and underdeveloped infrastructure. According to the World Bank, eSwatini's unemployment rate hovers around 27%, while over 63% of the population lives below the national poverty line. This stands in contrast to South Africa, which, despite its own challenges, offers better-developed systems and support.
It is crucial that the people of eSwatini are given a democratic platform to express their wishes regarding their political future. By holding a referendum, residents can voice their opinions on whether they see a future as an autonomous state or as part of a more robust South African state, which may offer more opportunities for development, stability, and prosperity.
However, this is not merely a political issue; it is a matter of human dignity and empowerment. The citizens of eSwatini deserve the right to choose a path that will ensure improved living standards and enhanced opportunities for future generations.
We call upon the governments of eSwatini and South Africa to facilitate an open and transparent referendum. This process should be overseen by independent bodies to ensure fairness and credibility, accompanied by comprehensive public awareness campaigns to inform the citizens fully about the implications of such a significant decision.
Let us come together to urge our governments to respect the will of the people and consider this referendum as a step towards a brighter future. Sign this petition to support the right of eSwatini's citizens to make a choice that could transform their lives for the better.
