I am a very concerned resident of Westridge and the crime rate is increasing on a daily basis. I have 2 sons who travels to schools daily by public transport and they fear for their lives as innocent people are often caught in the middle of gang fights and shootings, as well as all the robberies taking place. Our area is very unsafe and we also experience house breakings and car breakings. Please we need the police to be more visible and to take down all the drugdens in our communities.

enough is enough

Enough is enough ... time to stand together Mitchells Plain for our children. Why should we be scared in our own homes or travel in fear to work in the morning & worry about the safty of our kids as they walk to and from school.

freedom to live#79 May 12, 2015, 14:50

I have live in mitchells plain all my life but this is the worst its ever been. I cant even go to the shop a few doors away as they were held up 3 times already. Our kids cant even play in the front yard or at the park because we dont know when bullets will come flying. We need our government to step in, send reinforcement,  send the army. I will rather have them patrolling and be told everyone in doors at a certain time just to know this is how gangsters will be wiped out. we need out streets back we need our place to stay and WE NEED OUR FREEDOM

Its not just Mitchell's plain but all "our" communities which needs drastic intervention. Seems government just too happy to let us all deteriorate in the filth and aftermath of aparthied. Like else where, gangsterism, drugs , alcohol and the physical abuse on the cape flats stems from what our fore fathers had to endure and some still has to overcome.  When will these injustices be corrected?

Why did you sign this petition?I signed this petition because our kids are being affected by the gangsterism and drugs in our community more and more everyday. how can we expect them to have bright futures when they can't just be children. We have become captives in our own homes.

Portlands, Mitchell's Plain was my home town between 1970 and 1985 and then Eastridge and Lentegeur for more and a decade. It's sad to see what is happening there.
