Complete Overdue Renovations at Johnson Middle School

Currently, Johnson Middle School 6th graders have classes on the 4th floor where only half of the floor is used for instruction.  The 4th floor renovation began years ago and was halted due to insufficient funding. This greatly limits the number of classrooms available for instruction.  Furthermore, without completion of the unfinished classrooms and other half of the 4th floor, the teachers, staff, and 6th grade students are forced to try and maximize social distancing in a limited space, increase class sizes, and ultimately increase the risk of close contact should a 6th grade student or team member test positive for COVID-19. Additionally, the broken outside gate by the field limits Johnson administration in their efforts to create a safe and effective outdoor space for students to increase social distancing during lunch periods. 

The D wing of the school building, damaged in a fire decades ago, is now Johnson's Arts wing.  Currently the lighting is extremely dim and needs replacement light fixtures as well renovated classrooms and classroom doors.  Inadequate lighting in the Arts wing creates a safety risk to students. 

Our PTO will continue to advocate for Johnson Middle School and call on DCPS, the Chancellor, and the community to provide support for an effective and equitable learning environment.By signing this petition, you support Panther Guardians Parent Teacher Organization in advocacy for completion of overdue renovations at Johnson Middle School.
