Ward 94 electricity outages, cable faults
Community Petition Regarding Ongoing Electricity Outages in Ward 94
Support Reliable Electricity Services in Our Community
We invite residents to sign this petition in support of those affected by ongoing electricity outages in Ward 94, including Blocks GG, HH, JJ, LL, NN,PP1, PP2, and PP3.
Introduction
This petition serves as a formal platform for residents to collectively express their concerns and advocate for sustainable solutions to the persistent electricity outages affecting our community.
For several years, residents have experienced recurring power interruptions linked to challenges involving the JJ Substation, MV cable faults, and broader network disruptions. Despite numerous complaints and reports submitted to the relevant authorities, a permanent resolution has yet to be implemented.
Impact on the Community
The ongoing outages have had a substantial adverse impact on residents and businesses within the community. Many households have incurred costs due to damage to electrical appliances and equipment. Individuals who work remotely experience significant disruptions to their productivity and income, while learners face difficulties studying effectively, particularly during evening hours. Furthermore, prolonged periods without electricity contribute to increased safety and security concerns, as poorly lit streets and homes may create opportunities for criminal activity.
Engagement with Local Authorities
The community has engaged with Councillor Elisa Mlotshwa of Ward 94 regarding these recurring outages. Councillor Mlotshwa acknowledged the issue and advised that discussions had taken place with municipal management. Residents were informed that a rotational outage schedule was being considered; however, no further feedback or implementation details have been communicated to the community.
In addition, community representatives met with officials from the City of Tshwane at Block FF on 29 May 2026. During this engagement, officials undertook to investigate the matter and assess potential solutions. Regrettably, there has been limited visible progress, and no subsequent communication has been provided to residents.
Our Requests
We respectfully request that the municipality:
1. Conduct a comprehensive investigation into the root causes of the recurring electricity outages.
2. Identify and address any illegal electricity connections that may be contributing to network instability.
3. Implement a long-term and sustainable solution to recurring cable failures rather than relying on temporary repairs.
4. Strengthen communication with residents by providing regular updates on investigations, progress, and planned interventions.
Request for Feedback
We respectfully request a formal written response from the municipality within two weeks of receipt of this petition. Should no feedback be provided or meaningful action taken within this period, the community reserves the right to escalate the matter to Tshwane House and other relevant oversight authorities.
Community Support
By signing this petition, residents demonstrate their support for reliable electricity services and a safer, more productive community. Collective participation reflects a shared commitment to improving living conditions and securing a lasting solution to these ongoing challenges.
Together, we can advocate for effective action and work towards a stronger, safer, and more resilient community.
Thank you for your consideration and understanding
