URGENT PETITION: Traffic Calming Measures - Sarel Cilliers

We, the undersigned residents, and road users along Sarel Cilliers Street petition the Executive Mayor, the City Manager, and the MMC and HOD for Roads and Stormwater for urgent traffic calming intervention. Following another serious accident, residents have had enough of the excessive speeding, reckless driving, and ongoing danger along Sarel Cilliers Street. This route has become increasingly unsafe for motorists, pedestrians, education facilities and residents. 

We call for immediate short-term intervention to repaint road markings, ensure stop streets and signage are clearly visible, improve road safety markings, install speed limit signs and traffic speed enforcement cameras along the affected route.

We further call for long-term traffic calming measures, including traffic circles with speed humps at strategic points; suggested intersections on Sarel Cilliers of Malcolm, Millburn, Struben, and Simon Streets. We also request that traffic impact studies be conducted at multiple times during the day and not as once-off assessments only.

Residents cannot continue waiting for another tragedy before meaningful action is taken. We demand urgent implementation of effective traffic calming measures to restore safety on Sarel Cilliers Street.
