Transforming Woodside Road East of 280 into a Beautiful Parkway

Woodside Mayor Brian Dombkowski is leading a project to leverage private funding to transform Woodside Road between 280 and the Alameda from today's ugly mini-freeway with concrete, pavers and weeds into a beautiful parkway, with trees, landscaping and public art.

Safety is also a major goal of the Mayor's project.  Today speeding traffic on Woodside road makes it scary and dangerous to turn left off of Moore Road, Southgate Drive, Northgate Drive and High Road onto Woodside Road.  Speeding vehicles on Woodside Road are also dangerous to bicyclists, pedestrians and kids going to Woodside high.

The main barrier to turning Woodside Road into a Parkway is the short section from Menlo Country Club to Moore Road that currently has a 45MPH speed limit.  Under current Caltrans regulations, parkways must have a 35MPH or lower speed limit.

To resolve this, Caltrans executives have asked Woodside Hills, Woodside Heights, and Moore Road residents to create a petition for the Woodside Town Council that will ask Caltrans to eliminate the short 45MPH section  of Woodside Road, making the speed limit on Woodside Road a uniform 35MPH.  This change will immediately make our neighborhoods safer, and will also make it possible to move forward with the Mayor's parkway project.  The impact of this change on drivers is minimal - travel time will be about 10 seconds slower.

As such, the Town of Woodside has created the following petition to Caltrans which we ask that you sign:

PETITION REQUESTING THE WOODSIDE TOWN COUNCIL ADOPT A RESOLUTION REQUESTING CALTRANS TO ESTABLISH A UNIFORM 35 MILE PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT IN WOODSIDE ON STATE HIGHWAY 84 FROM ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS TO HIGHWAY 280

The residents of Woodside, signing below, request the Town Council to  adopt a resolution requesting that Caltrans establish a uniform 35 mile per hour speed limit on State Highway 84 within the Town of Woodside from Alameda De Las Pulgas to Highway 280, thereby eliminating the 45 mile per hour speed limit which is currently in place for the section of State Highway 84 between Menlo Country Club and Moore Road. We make this request to reduce driver confusion created by the differing speed limits on this section of the roadway, to improve safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians using this section of the roadway and for those turning left onto the roadway from Moore Road, Southgate Drive, High Road and Northgate Drive where limited sight lines and excessive speed creates a dangerous condition for all drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians and to enhance safety for children as they bicycle and walk to Woodside High School.Sand_Hill_Road_Eastbound_View.jpg
