PETITION FOR TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

Extension 10, Ennerdale – Ward 7 (City of Johannesburg District G)

Dear Neighbour,

We, the undersigned residents of Extension 10, Ennerdale, urgently request the installation of a speed hump, or other appropriate traffic calming measures, along First Alabaster, particularly near the sharp curve by No. 61, as well as on Second Alabaster near the sharp curve at Diamant Close.

This section of the road has become increasingly dangerous due to vehicles travelling at excessive speeds, especially when approaching and navigating the curve. The layout of the road creates a high-risk environment where drivers often lose control, posing a serious threat to nearby homes, pedestrians, and other road users. This concern is not hypothetical, but based on repeated incidents:

• In 2011, a vehicle crashed into a residential property at the corner of First Alabaster and Diopeside Close.
• On 16 April 2026 at approximately 15:00, two vehicles collided near the drainage area by the curve.
• On 20 April 2026 at around 16:00, another vehicle drove into a residential property at the same location.
• On the 1st of May 2026, around 7:30 another vehicle drove into a street light pole and drove off.

These incidents highlight an ongoing and escalating safety risk. The combination of speeding vehicles and the sharp curve creates conditions that endanger not only property but also the lives of residents, including children and pedestrians who use this area daily.

As a community, we believe proactive intervention is necessary. We respectfully call on the City of Johannesburg, Ward 7 (District G), to:

• Conduct an urgent safety assessment of this area Install a speed hump or similar traffic calming measures
• Consider additional safety interventions such as warning signage, road markings, and increased speed enforcement
• Our goal is to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of all residents. We kindly ask for your support by signing this petition so that our collective voice can bring about meaningful action.
