Barton Road (lower) in Torquay is a residential, family area of our town, a road frequented by hundreds of primary and secondary school children every week on their walk to school.
Currently Barton Road (lower) has in place, completely ineffective speed reducing measures, with wide and low split speed humps from the area of Torre Academy Primary, ending at the narrowing of the road at the Torre Marine Estate.
Vehicles are frequently travelling well above the speed limit, easily navigating between the so called speed reducing implimentations, often dramatically increasing the speed once reaching the road narrowing point.
I am campaigning for the speed reducing measures to be urgently improved before a tragedy occurs.
If a car traveling at 40 mph hits a person, 9 out of 10 people in this accident would lose their life.
Please, I urge you to make our voices heard. Help us force those with the power to make these changes happen to take action.
