Petition for the Reconsideration of the Hairstyle policy at Hoerskool Zeerust
We, the learners of Hoërskool Zeerust, would like to respectfully request a review of the rule that does not allow braids (singles).
Braids are a practical and affordable hairstyle for many learners. Not all families can afford expensive or frequently changing hairstyles, and braids help reduce these costs. Allowing braids would make it easier for learners to maintain neat and presentable hair without financial strain.
In addition, braids save time during the school day. Learners who do not have braided hair often need to spend more time fixing their hair in the toilets, which can lead to lateness for class and missed learning time. Braids are long-lasting and require less daily maintenance, helping learners stay focused on their schoolwork.
We believe that allowing neat and well-kept braids will still maintain the school’s standards of discipline and appearance, while also being fair and inclusive to all learners.
We kindly ask the school management to reconsider this rule and allow learners to wear braids (singles), as long as they are neat and appropriate.
