NO BAIL FOR THE TEACHER WHO SOLD YOUNG GIRLS FOR SEX

L Legal and Human Rights Sector of the SANAC Civil Society Forum · ZA

We the Legal and Human Rights Sector of the SANAC Civil Society Forum, stand united in outrage after the shocking revelation that a teacher has been arrested for human trafficking and selling young girls for sex

This was not a stranger.
It was a teacher trusted to protect and guide our young girls. who allegedly betrayed that trust and destroyed innocent lives.

  • We will not stay silent.
  • We will not look away.
  • We demand NO BAIL and FULL JUSTICE for the victims.

OUR DEMANDS

NO BAIL for the accused teacher under the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act (Act 7 of 2013).

This individual poses a direct threat to victims, witnesses and the community.

  • Prioritize prosecution and ensure this case is handled swiftly, transparently, and with the utmost seriousness.
  • Protect survivors and witnesses through secure shelters, counselling, and ongoing support.
  • Hold the Department of Basic Education accountable to teachers who exploit children and young people, and they must never step into a classroom again.
  • Strengthen national safeguards so no child ever faces this horror again.

OUR MESSAGE TO THE NATION

This is more than a case it’s a call for justice.
It’s a moment to defend the dignity of every youth and child who should be protected.
No bail. No Mercy for Human Traffickers.
South Africa, we must rise.

LEGAL AND MORAL BASIS

This crime is not just moral outrage; it’s a constitutional violation:

  • Section 10: Every person has inherent dignity.
  • Section 12: Everyone has the right to freedom and security, free from all forms of violence and exploitation.
  • Section 28: Every child has the right to be protected from abuse and degradation.

Granting bail would betray these rights and endanger more lives.

WE CALL ON:

  • The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to oppose bail and prioritizes prosecution.
  • The Department of Basic Education to permanently remove any teacher implicated in such crimes.
  • The Department of Social Development supports victims through trauma recovery and protection services.
