The bail hearing for Rob Evans, accused of murdering his girlfriend Vanessa Van Rensburg, has been postponed once more at the Humansdorp Regional Court. This delay distances justice from Vanessa’s grieving family and the community seeking accountability. Evans’s lead lawyer, Danie Gouws, was absent this week, with colleague Paul Roelofse representing him. Roelofse informed the court that the defense was not yet ready to challenge the charge's classification under Schedule 6, which makes obtaining bail difficult. They plan to apply for a downgrade of this classification. The court has postponed the hearing until July 1, 2025, setting that date as the deadline for written submissions. Prosecutor Bianca Burger opposed the delay, citing concerns that Evans poses a flight risk and could intimidate witnesses if released.
