KEEP OUR WESTPAC BRANCH AT BURLEIGH WATERS
Did you know the Westpac branch at Burleigh Waters (Tree Tops) is closing and moving to Stocklands Shopping Centre?
It is closing on 22nd August, 2025 and re-opening as a shared branch with St George Bank on 26th August, 2025.
Why is that a problem you may ask?
Because it will leave our area of Burleigh Waters, Varsity Lakes and Reedy Creek without a bank branch of any kind, and also without a major bank ATM.
When I asked the staff at Westpac Burleigh Waters if they were at least going to leave the ATM there for their customers, I was told no, "but there is an X ATM at Tree Tops Plaza."
That is unacceptable. Many people have accounts from banks that are not compatible with X ATM's and are charged fees of up to $3.50 per transaction. It also won't help anyone when the Tree Tops Plaza is closed after hours and public holidays.
Many elderly people and retirees from the nearby Bungalows Village Residential Community rely on that branch to do their banking, and after August 22nd will have to travel 3 kms to do their banking. That might not sound like much for the average person, but it is for people who don't have a car, have disabilities, health issues and/or cannot afford public transport.
Many of the surrounding small businesses also rely heavily on this branch, and indeed, this branch originally started out as a Westpac Business Branch.

Finally, please contact your local Gold Coast City Councillor, State and Federal MP to let them hear your concerns about this issue, if enough people contact them about it they will act on it.
