North Coates Airfield

North Coates Airfield commands an important place in the history of British aviation and our flying heritage.
It must left unhindered at all costs and allowed to continue as an active airfield representing local as well as national interests.

These plans create an unnecessary risk to those using a well-established and well-liked local amenity which both helps local tourism and the local economy. There is no reason why Smart Wind cannot change the location of these compounds to mitigate this risk. Their current intransigence smacks either of arrogance, or worse still an underlying plan to render the airfield inviable in order to take advantage of its location for future development. In either case, their action is completely inappropriate for a supposedly responsible operator.

There are other old airfields that are no longer active, why not use one of them.
Guest#54 Jul 08, 2014, 11:19
Is there REALLY nowhere else on the east coast of Lincolnshire to site a windfarm, than exactly next to a busy active airfield.

These planners should really open their eyes and try to consider all aspects, not only their pockets and bank balances.

Windfarms near airfields

Absolutely bonkers, typical of the "big boys" doing exactly what they like with the help of local councils and planning committee. It is about time the powers that be listened to the general public and non-bias experts.

These turbines are not very efficient, have high maintenance costs and are a blot on the landscape and the horizon. Just what is this buffoon of a government thinking of, they should be re-investing in coal and nuclear power; we need proper jobs that will provide all the energy we need to keep this country going instead of relying on foreign countries for our energy.

So I say, think again Smart Wind and blow your ill-wind else where and leave North Coates Flying Club to fly safely and the residents to live in peace and to enjoy the countryside.

Lets stop this happening
Guest#57 Jul 08, 2014, 17:08
It is about time these wind farms be sited away from places where they cause safety issues and problems to sites which are already in the area. I personally think these wind farms should be banned altogether they are neither use or ornament.

As if we are not having enough hastle from all the on-shore wind turbines around this part of Lincolnshire, they are threatening the viability of North Coates airfield with the infrastructure for the offshore turbines.
Guest#59 Jul 08, 2014, 21:27
there are better formats for energy and better places to do it !!!
Guest#60 Jul 09, 2014, 00:03
We've already lost Plymouth Roborough recently. We've lost Manston this year. Sorry but it's time to stand up for General and Light Aviation in this country. Wellesbourne, Long Marston, NORTH COATES and more. Where does it end? The Government should be doing so much more for aviation.

Good luck
With your petition

There must be a more appropriate place than next to this historically important airfield. Please reconsider your location.
Guest#63 Jul 09, 2014, 21:49
GA is restricted enough, let's protect our history
Guest#64 Jul 10, 2014, 08:43
Given that this company has other options as to where to place their compounds I think if they continue with their current plans then they are just being malicious and bloody minded
Guest#65 Jul 10, 2014, 13:09
We have used North Coates Aerodrome for 20+ years and it is a much valued facility. This development would make the airfield approach and departure path extremely hazardous. There are a vast number of more suitable sites in the area.

Good luck with your petition

Just build this thing elsewhere away from the runway!
baz#68 Jul 10, 2014, 15:00
keep away from our airspace
Guest#69 Jul 10, 2014, 15:16
How any company can presume to impose it's presence on a pre-established business (and on a historic site, at that) to such a degree that the very existence of that business is threatened, is beyond me. Sustainable energy is a must for the future but common sense needs to prevail. Airfields are being threatened up and down the country and the valuable contribution that General Aviation makes to the economy is under threat with them. Best of luck to North Coates in fending off this ridiculous proposal.
Guest#70 Jul 10, 2014, 15:59
Scrap all wind-farms - they are a political statement(which we pay for) and utterly useless for supplying reliable electricity.
Guest#71 Jul 10, 2014, 16:01
Wind turbines are a blight on the landscape, look what's happened to Conisholme, the lovely Lincolnshire village in which I was born (in 1938) and bred.. I sincerely wish this petition, and the club of course, every success. MB (Shropshire Aero Club, Sleap)

the proposed development 'sited as is proposed' seems to be ridiculous since it may well cause the existing use of the airfield (light aviation) to be curtailed on safety grounds. This seems unfair and unnecessary given that the proposal could be located elsewhere
Guest#73 Jul 10, 2014, 16:27
When there is no direct need to site a facility where it damages the viability of an existing one the first one should be protected.
Guest#74 Jul 10, 2014, 18:19
So much space, yet once again developers target the GA community & its airfields. I wish they would consult with GA rather than try to steam roller over. Good luck to North Coates in this venture.
Guest#75 Jul 10, 2014, 21:12
This illogical proposed development on the fringe of and active airfield would endanger the lives of pilots, passengers and the public within the boundary of the proposed development.
