EXCESSIVE NOISE FROM MENLYN CENTRE AFFECTING 5 WARDS IN TSHWANE AND PLANNED EASTER WEEKEND EVENT

WE, THE RESIDENTS AND COUNCILLORS OF PRETORIA EAST DEMAND THAT MENLYN CENTRE STOPS ALL NOISE POLLUTION AND PLANS TO CREATE AN EVENTS AREA AS THEY ALREADY ARE CREATING SEVERE NOISE DISTRUBANCE IN THE EAST OF TSHWANE. 

This evening, Sunday 29th March they are again allowing noise pollution from an event, on the 28th March 2026 they are hosted  a Gin Event which disturbed at least 4 wards on either side of the N1, with noise levels far exceeding the allowed JOC conditions. 

The fact that this is planned for repeat events infringes on the rights of all residents and rate payers of the COT and is against noise regulations and laws. 

We demand that CoT take action to prevent this infrigement of rights of the residents. We demand that action is taken to prevent future events planned that cause noise disturbnance. We demand that Menlyn Centre takes responsibility for what happens at Menlyn Mall, and that they stop impacting on the lives of residents to make money

We demand that the City of Tshwane explains why the events are given the limit of 95 DB noise when the national acceptable noise levels in residential areas generally range from 50 to 55 dBA during the day (06:00–22:00) and 45 dBA or less at night (22:00–06:00). These levels are designed to prevent disturbance and protect health, often enforced by local municipal bylaws, that classify noise exceeding 45 dBA at night in residential zones as excessive. 

Menlyn had an event on Easter Sunday, which was an afront and insult to the many Christian residents on the most Holy of  Christian calendar dates, with 5 wards beign affected. 

Tshwane must reconsider the approval of such events with the excessive levels disturbing the peace in multiple wards.
