Electricity: City of Ekurhuleni - Tariff B Bulk Resellers

PETITION: Energy Department – 3 Tiers billing for Tariff B – Bulk Resellers We, the undersigned residents in the City of Ekurhuleni hereby petition the City of Ekurhuleni Energy Department to urgently address the issues of the recently introduced billing for Tariff B – Bulk Resellers to complexes in particular Sectional Title Complexes.

Problem statement: ·       The introduction of new charges which are Network Access Charges, Demand Charges, as well as the splitting of the readings and billing into 3 tiers namely Off Peak, Standard Charge, and Peak Charge. There is also an introduction of 20% increase whereby the other tariffs enjoy a lower increase. Complexes will need to purchase and install Smart meters as well as Time of Use meters (TOU). You are going to cripple residents if this continues. People cannot afford to pay these extra costs.

Remedy: Remove the additional charges and treat Sectional Title the same way as HOAs If it means introducing additional meters at council cost and change the set up, it can be done. We urge the City of Ekurhuleni Energy Department to take this petition seriously and to act swiftly to provide permanent solutions as set out above.
