SAY NO TO REZ2026-00008 - STOP HIGH DENSITY ON RIDGE RD/THOMPSON MILL RD

Please sign this petition to stop a high density development on the corner of Ridge Rd and Thompson Mill Rd. This development will make way for more high density developments in our area, increase traffic on our already jammed-packed two lane roads and impact our overpopulated schools. 

The corner of Ridge Rd and Thompson Mill Rd is 11.59 acres zoned RA-200 designed for rural, low-density areas, allowing one-family detached dwellings, agricultural activities, and livestock. The applicant is requesting to rezone that corner to R-TH to construct 67 townhomes!! (Update as of 4/22/26...applicant has added single-family detached homes to the application and reduced the number of townhomes) We don't want that in our community!! We moved to Buford for the rural, quiet environment. If we wanted the urban, high density feel, we would have chosen to live somewhere else!! 

Those 67 townhomes would bring at least 134 more vehicles to our already jammed roads.  Our two lanes cannot handle this amount of additional traffic especially at that corner. More traffic on crowded roads creates unsafe traffic conditions. Thompson Mill Rd is already backed up when people are trying to get home.

67 townhomes would also bring an influx of students to our now crowded schools. Ivy Creek Elementary and Jones Middle have multiple trailers already to accommodate the overcrowding. The students have to alternate days to eat lunch in the cafeteria and their classrooms due to the overcrowding. Teacher to student ratios increasingly growing making it impossible to provide effective learning. 

This development is not smart growth in this area!! Please sign this petition to say NO to this application for rezoning and to stop this development. Thank you! 

Update as of 5/6/26: The Planning Commissioners meeting on May 5th, 2026 was successful...they recommended "denial" for the rezoning. Now onto the Board of Commissioners meeting taking place on Tuesday May 19th, 2026 at 75 Langley Drive Lawrenceville 30046. Let's keep this petition going and stop this rezoning for good! 

Update as of 5/22/26: The Board of Commissioners voted 3 to 2 to approve the rezoning. The applicant did change the site plan at the last minute from a mix of townhomes/single family homes to all single family homes (44), but the rezoning was still approved for R-TH (townhomes). We are trying to appeal, so we will see. Thank you for all your support and love of our community!
