🚫🚽 Petition to Ban Public Urination in Nigeria

🚫🚽 Petition to Ban Public Urination by Men in Nigeria — Starting with Lagos State

To:

  • The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

  • Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources

  • Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA)

  • Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigeria

📢 We, the concerned citizens of Nigeria, demand an end to the public urination epidemic.

It is embarrassing, unhygienic, and completely avoidable. Our streets are not toilets. Yet, every day, men across Lagos — from highways to bus stops — openly urinate on walls, sidewalks, and roads with zero shame.

This behavior:

  • Pollutes the environment and contributes to foul odors across neighborhoods

  • Spreads harmful bacteria and increases risks of disease transmission

  • Attracts pests like rats and flies

  • Ruins the image of Lagos as a global, thriving, world-class city

  • Undermines public decency and sanitation laws already in place

Lagos deserves better. Nigeria deserves better. We deserve better.

✅ What we are demanding:

We urge the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to:

  1. Enforce strict penalties and fines against public urination, beginning with men, who are responsible for the vast majority of these incidents.

  2. Expand and maintain accessible, clean public toilets in high-traffic areas.

  3. Launch public campaigns to promote hygiene, dignity, and responsible behavior.

  4. Deploy sanitation officers or task forces to hotspots where open urination is common.

  5. Prioritize sanitation improvements across other Nigerian states after Lagos.

✊ We will no longer accept the stench of neglect.

Public urination is not a “normal Lagos thing.”
It is not funny.
It is not necessary.

If you can hold your phone, you can hold your pee until you find a toilet.

We call on the government to treat this issue as the public health and environmental crisis that it is — and take immediate action.
