Keep Toastmasters Accessible: Reconsider the 75% Pathways Cost Increase
We, the undersigned members and supporters of Toastmasters, ask Toastmasters International to reconsider the recent decision to increase the cost of Pathways by 75%.
The cost of a new Path has risen from $20 USD to $35 USD (approximately $60 NZD). When added to annual membership fees of $120 USD, plus individual club costs, this creates a significant financial barrier—particularly in the current cost-of-living climate. For members completing multiple Pathways, these costs quickly compound.
We are already seeing both current and prospective members reconsider their involvement due to rising costs. This change risks making Toastmasters less accessible and less inclusive.
Clubs rely on members progressing through Pathways to maintain engagement and achieve distinguished status. If members are unable or unwilling to continue due to cost, this will directly impact club health, retention, and growth.
Members were not consulted on this decision, and communication has been inconsistent. Many—including those in leadership roles—did not receive notification of the change, while others without formal roles did. This has left members feeling excluded from a decision that directly affects their participation, and has placed club leaders in the difficult position of responding to concerns without having been informed themselves.
We respectfully ask Toastmasters International to:
- Reconsider the scale of this increase
- Provide greater transparency around the decision-making process
- Engage with members and clubs before implementing significant cost changes
Toastmasters thrives because of its members. Decisions that affect participation should reflect their voices.
