"Keep Fisherhaven and Hawston United in Ward 8"

I trust this message finds you well.

As many of you are aware, the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) has proposed changes to our ward boundaries for the 2026 municipal elections. One of the suggestions is to remove Fisherhaven from Ward 8, which would separate it from Hawston, a community it has shared strong historical and social ties with for many years.

🕰️ A Shared History

Hawston and Fisherhaven have been part of the same municipal ward for well over a decade — possibly since the early 2000s. This long-standing relationship is not just administrative; it's a reflection of deep community ties. From shared schools and churches to joint community events and local struggles for better services, we have always stood side by side.

Hawston’s deep roots in fishing and Fisherhaven’s history as a peaceful riverside settlement have made both communities unique, yet complementary. Our joint representation has ensured fairer access to resources and a stronger collective voice in Overstrand Municipal Council matters.

🤝 The Importance of Staying Together

Breaking this bond by redrawing ward lines would weaken our representation and possibly result in unequal service delivery. Together, we are stronger — with a shared ward councillor who understands the challenges and dreams of both communities.

📝 Petition to Show Support

To show how strongly we oppose the separation of Fisherhaven and Hawston, we have created a community petition. We are asking all residents to sign this petition to demonstrate your support for keeping our communities united in Ward 8.

Your voice matters. The more signatures we gather, the louder our message will be to the Municipal Demarcation Board.

📢 What You Can Do

  • Sign the Petition (available at local community centers, churches, schools, or online – link to be shared soon).

  • Attend the Public Meeting on Monday, 2 June 2025 at 10:00 at the Overstrand Municipal Auditorium in Hermanus.

  • Speak to your neighbors and encourage them to get involved.

Let us stand together as one voice — for unity, for fairness, and for the future of our communities.
