Just because we are doing so good in our part of the world, we have to remember that as human beings, we need something in comon, something that brings us and our history together. It is something we maby don't feel the importans of before it is gone...

 This is shameless! Let's start closing schools too then - they don't bring money... It is revolting how politicians see no problem in the big funds they get for the little useful work they do, yet when they decide to show how good they are at cutting expenses the first thing they think of is culture.

I lived in Belgium till I was 26 and the NOB fostered my love for music. I was going to hear it when I was a mere kid, in the time of the Jeunesses Musicales and my parents were never missing a concert of theirs if they could avoid it!
We need to fight for live classical music - every where!

Arts and culture are the soul of each person. We need to support and preserve what we can so the future generation can live fuller lives. Look at the impact of colonization and residential schools to the indigenous people of Canada and America. They were cut off from their rich and health giving culture. Now the succeeding generations are still suffering and it is taking a long time for them to recover as a people.

Such a pitty for the image of Belgium abroad to destroy the only few orchestras left over there...we hope the polititians realise in time before doing any big mistake!!!!

To get back it will be very difficult,maybe imposible!!!

Culture is our life, life without culture, music and the arts would be awful. Culture is the salvation of many lives
and it would be a real crime to cut money for the orchestras.

Classical and symphonic music is a god send! As an undergraduate student I'd love to work with an orchestra of this scale in the future, if they dissappear so do my job prospects!

As a symphony orchestra musician in Quebec, Canada, where we have 3 major symphonic orchestras, several smaller ones as well as chamber orchestras, I am particularly sensitive to this issue. We need diversity in our cultural institutions, and musicians need the opportunity to play with different ensembles, not only for financial reasons, but for artistic development. It is good for everyone, especially the public. Culture and cultural heritage is a precious resource and commodity.

The world needs Symphony orchestras so that everyone can experience classical music. It is a vital part of our culture and that of our children and grandchildren. We cannot allow them to disappear.
