I totally agree! Anything to make NZs roads safer, it wouldnt hurt to have a few skills :)

I did a written/visual(video)version of Defensive Driving in the late '70's/early '80's as a 'club' at high school before I even got my licence. It has been of great benefit to me and in teaching my son to drive (he has also taken the current optional DD course). It has been used almost as a punishment for driving offences but it needs to be promoted as essential in learning to drive. After all a car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands. It is so frustrating when you see people making simple, silly, fatal mistakes.
