Faversham Yellow Lines

signage can be placed of restrictions at each entrance into the town centre, no need for yellow lines. Just look at other towns and see how they have tackled this problem without resorting to yellow lines - there are such a vast variation in alternatives that can be used (the council are really sad blinkered people). Has anyone done a survey of how many people actually park in the town centre to warrant these restrictions anyway?

I recently moved to Faversham from London, and we chose this town partly because of the unique character and beauty of the town and the historic town centre. I agree that this will be undermined by the visual clutter and the ugliness of painting yellow lines on the cobbled streets of the market square - lines that seem to be unnecessary given the limited and managed vehicle access to the area and the existing signage. Whatever problem exists with unauthorised parking there seems to be small and manageable by other means - the plan seems to be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Hasn't the town council anything better to spend our money on than to disfigure the market place with unnecessary road markings ?

Yellow lines will be an unnecessary and detrimental tragedy

The proposal to deface the texture of the historic persona of Faversham brings to mind the famous words of The Prince of Wales thirty years ago in connection with the initial proposals to extend the National Gallery.

"What is proposed is like a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved and elegant friend"

Alternative solutions already exist in similar situations by which the same objectives can be achieved whilst simultaneously respecting the heritage of the town

It is the duty of both elected representatives and their officers to fully research these alternatives and to seek the views of the community they represent prior to making a properly informed decision, rather than proceeding with unnecessary haste to carry out an act of vandalim the marks of which will be virtually impossible to remove.

faversham town centre does not want, deserve or need yellow lines.

what is wrong with the parking restriction signs already displayed at the two access points and on lamp posts along the proposed route?

The yellow lines will ruin the look of this old town. It will affect tourism as people come to see an authentic medieval town with little signage and lines to ruin it.

These are not even required! No one parks in the centre anyway and even if they did a restricted time would be enough. It may ruin some of the smaller shops too if no one can stop at all. What a shame to ruin the old marketplace with yellow lines everywhere.

We don't need any more excuses to be fined by Swale.

I don't see what is wrong with what we have now. Swale are always so happy to spend our money. It's not theirs. Why should they care as long as their pay and pensions are covered.

Will spoil a lovely old marketplace and town. There are other less unsightly and inexpensive ways to limit parking. Which isn't an issue anyway as never cars parked there for long.

There are never cars parked in these areas anyway! It will totally ruin the lovely old market place and the odd car will still park for a few mins anyhow! Who on earth came up with this idea and why??

I am very disappointed that you feel it necessary to paint yellow lines on the old cobblestones in Faversham, totally spoiling the uniqueness of this beautiful old town which we are so lucky to be living in. why do the council want to ruin a perfectly effective little town . They just want to force everyone one into council run car parks. Leave faversham to thrive as the market town it always has been. If its not broke dont fix it,

there seem absolutely no compelling reasons to go through with this vandalism and every reason not to. If Swale or the town council has money to spend i'm sure there are far more needy causes than daubing an attractive historic town centre with yellow paint.

they've put yellow lines in today... looks horrendous.... all our efforts.... your remarks about them limiting the places where the lines go is premature... the lines are HORRIBLE
