Equality for SMBI residents - Parking at Weinham and Banana street
This has to stop!
Although there is clear outlines as to what is happening with the car parking by local council. They take no Initative to move quickly!
Russell island is growing substantially and it's growth is not slowing down for anyone!!
Why is council taking so long?, why haven't these so called "works" or "upgrades" began? Why build multi level carpark which will be an eye saw for local residents at Redland bay? There has to be a fast fix.
Everyday no matter what time it is, unless you sit there and wait for the ferries to come in like clockwork and stalk someone until they walk to their car ... You don't get a carpark. Which forces us to either park illegally sometime in spaces that SHOULD be carparks but are not. Or walk 10 mile.
Now from experience when rushing back to catch the 1015pm ferry for example, because you don't want to miss that ferry as if you do it's 1 hour and 30min wait until the next one, when your hurrying to make it and cannot find a carpark and are forced to double park or park in a bike carpark and be fined ridiculous amounts of money it is a buzz killer. But you do what you have to do.
But what about the elderly? The disabled? The mum with 5 kids who's desperate to park close but can't and has to drag her kids for a 10 mile walk when it's been an already long day!
*** Even when there is upwards of 50 carparks sitting all alone in a gated section that used to be offered to SMBI locals to ensure their cars were kept safe from general parking or public parking spaces.
WHY are we not able to utilise these spaces until such times as council gets their act together and gives us islanders a fair and equal opportunity, an opportunity to live life as they do on mainland and commute to and from work and not have to fight for a carpark to go home, not have to miss the ferry or cop a $250 fine or just to know that our cars are safe over night where we left them and won't get scratched, kicked, debadged or cyphened.
Why is it that because we live on an island, that is still part of the Redland bay council area . Are we being penalised and not treated equally to mainlanders.
Majority of us have either a spare car or our main car on the mainland.
A. To save money on barges
B. To avoid barges as you can NEVER get on them when you actually need them.
C. To be able to commute to and from work or around the mainland.
Does it work out more expensive for each of you to have that car over there each week? How many of us are being fined when really the Local council are paying for this so called multi level carpark by fining us daily and creating revenue to fund a project that hasn't even started yet!!!
If you agree that council needs to do something in the interim for us to be able to park safely, and legally whilst they create this multi level carpark which at this point needs to be atleast 6 levels high!! Then please sign
If you agree that council are taking too long and we need solutions please sign
If you are sick of paying fines, not having enough parking and having to walk 10 miles just to get home please sign
If your sick of missing that damn ferry by 2mins because parking is non existant please sign
And last of all if you think council needs to look at SMBI as a part of their council area a little more and include us all with equal rights as mainlanders have (minus a few exceptions of course) and allow us to park safely. Legally and without damage to our property. Please sign.
LETS FIX THIS PARKING SITUATION SMBIs and put this to council for immediate action.
