First aid should also be compulsary in the work place, and refreshed when required. I did the Red Cross course in 04 but have lost all confidence in applying any of the techniques now.

I'm a Kiwi living in Canada. My son got proper first aid training at his high school here, but not until Grade (year) 10. As a former New Zealand Army medic, I would hope for Year 8 at the latest for first time training.
