I signed this petition because this is the school I grew up going to. It was a great place to learn and I felt safe with most of the faculty how worked there. Please keep it open.

I went to coburn as a child, it would be crazy not to see that school still around.

I had planned on sending my girls to coburn next year because it is a community based school. My oldest daughter, who is in special education went to coburn elementary last year for kindergarten. i was nervous about sending her to school because i was worried that she would get bullied. she never once got bullied or picked on at coburn, she had friends and none of the teachers or staff tolerated any type of bullying. now she and her little sister go to a different school and they have been constanty bullied and picked on. the teachers have stated that its just "kids being kids". I have had to take matters into my own hands to get things under control at least with the issues on their bus. my girls recently expressed to me that they would like to go to coburn next year so that they can can have friends and be happy again. please don't close down the one school that my children really want to go to

I'm a student at Coburn, and I would hate to see it close! Coburn has helped me advance in reading even though I'm not the best at reading. I like that Coburn is small and can fit a small amount of kids because I don't like allot of people, I get distracted. My teacher is amazing and so are my friends! Please don't close Coburn and take this amazing experience away from me.

My 1st grade daughter asked me to write this for her, I helped her with some of the words as she was having a hard time trying to express everything the way she wanted to. My daughter is in Mrs. Mackey's class and she's so scared that if Coburn closes she won't be as good in school. She loves her school because it has helped her in many ways improving in her learning and behavior!

I used to work at Coburn and met some awesome staff members there and we became friends, a lot of students walk to school and if it closes they won't be able to do that anymore

#34 Battle Creek School Closings

2015-04-20 20:23

Both of my daughter's attended Coburn Elementary and thrived there. Now my son who will be in kindergarten this coming year would be going to Coburn Elementary.  If Coburn closes I will be pulling my son out of the Battle Creek Public School system this has truly been a heartbreaking decision for my family. I am sure many others will be pulling their children out of BCPS system also. It is ill advised to close any more schools in this area. Children need individualized attention (some more than others) my younger daughter fell into this group Coburn supported this. Sticking more children into already crowded classrooms is not what is in the best interest of any of our children or our future. The dollars they are hoping to save by closing schools will only be lost by losing more students to other school districts. Closing schools is not a way to generate income it will only hurt in the long run.

Keep Coburn open it's the only school left on the South Side is Hicks thinking about that. Pretty soon it won't be a Battle Creek public school system because everyone will be sending their kids to other district like Lakeview Pennfield and Harper Creek or one of the charter schools then she won't have no job. Is she thinking about that.

Because I attended this school through all of my elementary years and it is an amazing school with a great curriculum. The teachers care about their students.

I signed this because we can't lose anymore public schools! Soon, what schools we have will become over crowded. I went to this school as a child, and it's a great school!
Live in district, but i send my kid to Lakeview!

BCPS has closed enough schools! This is where our community needs to rally together and come up with alternative funding. What was the purpose in building a new expensive high school, only to turn around and close more schools to save money. That doesnt make any sense!!
