America's promise of freedom and democracy was never meant for all. It was only meant for white, male landowners. Stolen from the real Americans and made wealthy by the enslaved labor of Blacks , America has yet to heal it's soul. A crucial step would be finally telling the truth to our children. If we told the truth about the near genocide of the original Americans and their forced impoverishment we might begin to heal. If we told the truth about slavery and the continued oppression of Blacks in this country we could begin the process of reconciliation and reparation. Look in the mirror. How can you call yourselves educators while you teach only a whitewashed version of American history? We demand a TRUTHFUL, mandatory African American History class.
